The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just dropped their Class of 2025 nominees, and guess what? Some of our favorite bands finally made the cut!
If you’re wondering how artists get nominated, here’s the deal: Their first commercial recording must be at least 25 years old (so, pre-2000). It’s all about their cultural impact, influence on other musicians, and overall legacy. Simple enough, right?
There are plenty of artists on the list, but let’s give a special shoutout to the ones we rock with at The Societees!
Bad Company
The OG English supergroup. Formed in 1973, Bad Company came out swinging with three straight killer albums: Bad Company (1974), Straight Shooter (1975), and Run with the Pack (1976). They’ve been tearing up stages for 50 years, and yet—this is their first nomination? Drummer and co-founder Simon Kirke called it a “travesty” in 2023, and honestly, he’s right. Decades of lineup changes might’ve slowed their Hall of Fame momentum, but not anymore.
About damn time, Bad Company. Congrats!
The Black Crowes
Speaking of long-overdue nominations, The Black Crowes—led by the ever-entertaining Robinson brothers—are finally in the mix. These Southern rockers kicked off their career with Shake Your Money Maker and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, and they never looked back. With nine studio albums and 30 million records sold worldwide, their latest, Happiness Bastards (2024), even landed a Grammy nod for Best Rock Album.
Chris Robinson called the nomination “fantastic,” but let’s be real—it’s about time, and they damn well deserve it!
Billy Idol
Same spiky blonde hair, same leather jacket, same badass attitude. Billy Idol started out fronting Generation X before breaking out solo, and when MTV exploded, so did he. With hits like Dancing with Myself, Rebel Yell, and White Wedding, he was everywhere in the ‘80s.
He got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023—now let’s see if he can add a Rock Hall trophy to his shelf. Eyes without a face, but votes with a taste—let’s make it happen!
Cyndi Lauper
Oh, girls just wanna have fu-un! And if you don’t know this song, your wife does. Cyndi Lauper broke boundaries with her unique style and powerhouse vocals, becoming the first female artist to score four top-five Billboard hits from a debut album (She’s So Unusual, 1983). She’s almost an EGOT winner—so yeah, she’s kind of a big deal.
She was nominated in 2023 and featured in the Rock Hall’s Women Who Rock exhibit, but this year? She better take that trophy home.
Oasis
Britpop royalty. Oasis dominated the ‘90s with their anthemic sound, iconic attitude, and brotherly brawls. Liam and Noel Gallagher took over the UK and beyond, selling 75 million records and shaping an entire generation of rock.
Liam, however, couldn’t care less. He’s publicly declared he has “no interest” in the Rock Hall, but hey, that’s peak Gallagher behavior. Congrats anyway, Oasis—whether you like it or not!
Final Thoughts?
Some legendary names, some long-overdue nominations, and some serious rock history being made. Will they all make the final cut? That’s up to the voters. But for now, let’s celebrate these icons for finally getting their due.
Who are you rooting for?
Rock on,
Sam 🤘
