I know I’m one for bold statements, but usually with good reason! So I put it to you that Kelly Kapowski (played by Tiffani Amber Thiessen) was every boy’s first crush in the 90s.
Can I start with the blatant obvious? She’s smokin hot… in a kinda bashful understated way! She’s the all-American sweetheart—popular, charming, and always stylish. She’s self-motivated and driven – she was head cheerleader and captain of several sports teams. To top it all she’s also an intelligent, straight-A student. What made her different was that she was sometimes a troublemaker that gets her into detention, but her caring nature and big heart make up for it. No guy could say no to her. And the girls wanted to be like her, too!
Why did we relate to this shiny happy California teen couple in Saved By The Bell? Because we could all relate to this chick from high school? The one that everyone chased after and fought over. The one who blew hot and cold every other day. She was a wholesome teacher’s pet who could also get into trouble and come out smilin. The one who was fiercely independent and didn’t need a boy to validate her – which somehow made her hotter!
Although Kelly and Zack Morris had their on-and-off relationship throughout the Saved By The Bell series, they were one of the biggest couples in 90’s television. Just behind Cory and Topanga!
If you’ve seen the show, you know that their relationship was kind of a mess. You know why the show had me hooked – don’t call me a hater. It was fun to see the all-american, letterman, prom king and his wrestling buddy getting strung along by the girls. High School life is always far from perfect and usually far from fun – this is rarely shown on a kids tv comedy!
They got their happy ending just as we all wanted. In the short-lived 2020 reboot Zack was a politician and married to Kelly Kapowski-Morris. But she was a bored housewife – which took some shine off the character. However, at 50, Kelly is still smokin hot!
Although the original SBTB was very Zack-centric and Kelly was originally just the love interest, it quickly changed and the show wouldn’t be the same without her. She’s the 90’s American dream girl for everyone.
(And at least we saw Tiffani again on Beverly Hills 90210!)
