Not sure who needs to hear this, but stop buying shirts with an old, rich, New York white man’s name on it – You are NOT Calvin or Ralph or Michael or even Giorgio. Why would want to wear these shirts really? No offence intended, I genuinely want to know. I see grown men walking in the street with a black t-shirt that just says Michael Kors or whatever the brand of the day is at TJ. It just doesn’t speak to me. What are we showing to the world when we are a literal walking billboard for a random old fashion house. You are more than that and you deserve more than that. In your life, what do you have a passion for? What really speaks to you? Who has a story you really relate to? That’s what you should wear. Even if it’s not one of my t-shirts, that’s still what you should wear.
Are you wearing “name brands” because you think other people will think you’re rich? Because the truth is, they don’t care at all, not a little bit. It’s generic clothing at best. These tees with brand-only logos all over them don’t scream wealth – it tells me you shop at TJ’s or Ross or Burlington – and there is nothing wrong with that either. BUT is it you or what you stand for? All I’m saying is make choices on the clothes that you buy – do the brand stories match your beliefs? My example would be if you saw a cheap Vineyard Vines tee at Marshall’s – if you love yachting and whales and Massachusetts – then that’s the brand for you. If you don’t love those things, then don’t waste your money.
The other side of this coin is that wearing brand names that don’t suit you may make people think that your “other half” buys all your clothes for you. Firstly, don’t let someone else dress you, you are NOT a toddler anymore, (you weren’t fashionable then either)! Your partner didn’t choose you because they like the look of you… they didn’t think I wanna dress that person forever! Secondly, you deserve REAL Brands that have a real story to them that fits your passions.
