The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons so not to compete against the long-established NFL and college football. However, the USFL ceased operations before the 1986 season was scheduled to begin to compete directly with the NFL. The USFL has announced it’s long-awaited relaunch for the 2023 season.
