SAnta's Nice List

Hey Santa, Listen up, I don’t wanna do your job for you, but you have overlooked some really important peeps for your permanent Nice list. Please find the official SocieTees Nice List below and get them on it.

1. Rocky Balboa

Rocky balboa in the clouds

It's the Eye of the Tiger...

The ultimate feel-good, underdog-victory, all-American sports movie! I don’t know about you but when I need some motivation and confidence, Rocky is my guy – no joke, I put on “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor loud and GET S**T DONE! Tell me you haven’t done that, and if you haven’t I suggest you do! His ability to overcome so many physical and psychological obstacles and inspiring me and millions of others simply by running up some stairs to music is astounding!

Also, he beat down a Russian in the 80’s, so that’s worth a mention today more than ever and so he deserves a spot on Santa’s permanent nice list.

2. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump

Life is like a box of choc'lates...

Forrest Gump is a true American classic, and Tom Hanks is part of our family (he’s America’s Dad)! It’s funny and kinda historical, showing friendship, love, and so much of America.  This feel-good movie is FULL of quotables that have somehow become real life! How many of you have eaten at Bubba Gumps? And how many of you can finish the sentence –  “Life is like a box of chocolates…”

Forrest might be naive, but he’s all heart — helping others, loving fiercely, and running across America. He’s one of the best characters in film, if you haven’t watched it in a while, I suggest you do, it gives me the warm fuzzies. It’s the classic movie that everyone loves but no-one admits too! And for that reason, Santa will show him love and put him on the permanent Nice list.

3. Ron Burgundy

Ron Burgundy

Stay Classy San Diego

News Anchorman, Ron Burgundy is a personal hero… he’s not self-aware, he’s not the best, he’s not the brightest, he is the one that your mom says “…but he means well!” You know who I mean, that friend that, try as he might, just thinks he’s doing better than he actually is…. “bless him”! So he deserves a break and a place on the nice list

He’s a local-legend in his hometown, San Diego which was obviously discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means “a whale’s vagina”.

ALSO Ron Burgundy is, of course, played by personal favorite, Will Ferrell (of Talladega Nights, Step Bros, and Old School fame) who also played Elf – who actually KNOWS Santa, so it’s not who you know.

4. He-Man

He-Man

By the Power of Gray Skull

This heroic, barbarian superhero is the epitome of good. He-Man dedicated his life to become the awesome super hero that he is, and he fights off Skeletor and other evils from taking over Castle Grayskull. He was my hero growing up and I dreamed of leading the Masters of the Universe into battle – so much so I would often yell “By the Power of Grayskull” while swinging an imaginary sword! So for that reason alone He-Man has gotta be on Santa’s forever nice list. Plus… rumor has it there’s a new MotU movie coming out!

5 John Denver

John Denver outdoors

West Virginia's favorite son

Country roads take me home…to the place I belong. 🎶

Are you singing yet? This song will be in your head all day, I promise. It is my favorite song to put on during a road trip up to the mountains. And that was regardless of state… I actually haven’t been to West Virginia!

John Denver is a true American Icon, the voice of a generation, a singer, guitarist, movie star, idealist, politician, conservationist, and avid pilot. He was a beloved artist who loved the great American outdoors, and he wrote songs about the places he adored. So if you love this great land of ours, you gotta love his songs. So for all rural Americans, he will go on Santa’s eternal Nice list. Take em home…

6. Ash Williams

Ash from Army of Darkness

Hail to the King Baby

Ash Williams (played by Bruce Campbell) survives 3 (yes THREE) Horror movies (Evil Dead I, II and Army of Darkness) and the 5 season Tv Series – who even does that? He became a cult hero with THAT ending in Army of Darkness. For all his survival feats against all odds and Deadites he thoroughly deserves to be on Santa’s permanent nice list

Kelly Kapowski

...and the dog ate all my homework last night

In my eyes, Kelly was the “it” girl of the 90’s – she’s smart, sweet, athletic, a good role model and retro 90’s hot (yes that’s a different thing)! She’s the true all-American girl, head cheerleader, captain of the volleyball, swim, and softball teams. She was mine and  Santa’s 90’s crush and clear favorite character from Saved By the Bell and she had to put up with AC and Zack. Thing was, she was just sooooooo NICE, like unbelievably so, even in bad times, so she def deserves her place on the permanent Nice list. In fact, we could even rename it the Kelly list (tongue-twister)!

Guile from Street Fighter

Maybe it's about time for you to learn how to fight

If you played arcade games as a kid, then you had a Street Fighter character. You knew their special moves, their strengths and weaknesses Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Blanka – who was your pick?

Mine was Guile, he was the all-american hero who vowed to defend the death of his brother-in-arms. He was military, tough as boots and with the coolest hair (that I aspired to as a kid!). He also had the sickest special moves the “Sonic Boom” and the “Somersault Kick” that were pretty devastating. For being a good friend to me in my youth, Guile grabs a place in Santa’s Nice List!

9. Flash Gordon

Flash Gordon

Flash, I love you! But we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth! (best line ever!)

FLASH AAAAAAAAAHHHH! Flash Gordon has been saving the universe in comic form since 1934, that’s a pretty long time! Flash is so old he went to school with Santa! Then there was the TV Series’, a couple movies (do you remember Sam Jones anyone?) and multiple cartoons – He definitely deserves a break! This dude has been protecting our planet from the evil clutches of Ming the Merciless. Santa and us pathetic earthlings thank you, so your place on the permanent nice list is cemented

10. Popeye the Sailorman

popeye

I am what I am, and that's all that I am

Another hero from my childhood, Popeye was a different type of good-guy. He was rough, working-class and a brawler – he is what he is (I yam what I yam!) – but we all love an underdog! He fought for his love (Olive), he fought bullies (Bluto) and he always came out on top, no matter what. So for giving hope to underdogs everywhere, he is on Santa’s permanent nice list.

11. Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee

“Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water.”

Bruce Lee was the ultimate hero as a kid, his hands were lethal weapons, but he had the wisdom to only use them when necessary. A complete badass to most of us growing up! THE martial arts legend, he has influenced pop culture in the 20th century throughout his career. Without him, we probably wouldn’t know what karate is!

The reason I loved Bruce Lee as a youngster was not for flying fists, but for controlling flying thoughts. He was just so ZEN, and I need that… so for that he deserves to be on Santa’s Nice List. Be Water, my friends…

12. Ferris Bueller

FErris Bueller and pals

“Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water.”

This 80’s classic, spawned a teen working-man’s hero. Ferris Bueller just wants a Day Off of school, the lengths he goes to get one and what he does with it provide us with 2 hours of hilarity, and many new tactics on how to skive off! Simply for what he did to Cameron’s dads Ferrari he is our hero and on the permanent Nice List

Did I miss anyone especially nice? LMK
