WarGames is a 1983 American science fiction techno-thriller film starring Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller) and Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club). The movie follows David Lightman (Broderick), a young hacker who unwittingly accesses a United States military supercomputer programmed to simulate, predict and execute nuclear war against the Soviet Union AKA WOPR. This critique of global “chess” with nuclear weapons, Wargames highlights the futility of war, there are no winners.
