Bing Crosby Christmas long sleeve tee

There can only be One - "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby

What is your guess for the Best selling Christmas Song Ever? Mariah Carey? The Beatles? Frozen? You’d be totally wrong!

In fact, it’s not even close. According to the Guinness Book of World Records the Best selling Christmas Song is the 1942 classic ‘White Christmas’ recorded by Bing Crosby. It has sold over 100 million records around the world, with at least 50 million sales as singles. These numbers mean that “White Christmas” is not only the best-selling Christmas single in the US, but also the best-selling single of all time since the advent of recorded music. Ho-Ho-Ho indeed

Why did Bing Crosby love Christmas so much?

Bing Crosby had a deep love for Christmas, and this was obvious from the body of his music. He recorded more than 70 songs that are now considered Christmas classics, (but he didn’t write any of them). Some of his Christmas classics include:

  • White Christmas: Introduced on radio in 1941, this song is the best-selling Christmas single in the United States and the best-selling single of all time.

  • Mele Kalikimaka: Recorded with the Andrew Sisters in 1950, it means Merry Christmas in Hawaiian (allegedly)

  • I’ll Be Home For Christmas: Bing recorded the original in 1943 it has since gone on to become a Christmas standard, being covered numerous times by the likes of Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble.

  • Christmas In Killarney: The most famous version is by Bing Crosby, but he was the third artist to perform it.

  • It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas: Another classic sung by both Bing Crosby and Perry Como in 1950.

I think Bing Crosby’s love for Christmas was real and rooted in his personal experiences, musical passion, and belief in joy and togetherness. The holiday allowed him to express his values and connect with people, creating a lasting legacy that highlights the importance of family, community, and kindness during this special time of year.
