“One Man Army: Unraveling the Phenomenon of John Wick”Spot me out on the fact that we don’t have badasses like John Wick in our movies anymore. The brawny, swift yet silent man single-handedly taking down armies of enemies – ah, the thrill! Wick ain’t just a character folks, he is an embodiment of raw action, the kind of which we don’t witness today. Cinema has gotten way too fancy with its hoverboards, laser guns, and whatnots. But pull me into one of those overhyped space operas, and I bet you my favorite tee, I’m going to miss Wick shooting down men orderly, like a domino fall.

Think about it, we’ve all had a good share of playing “Contra” during the good ol’ days, haven’t we? Wick just feels like a badass boombox-toting Rambo dropped into our favorite game. And hey, he doesn’t even need an arsenal of weapons like our in-game characters did. A pencil, of all things, folks. A freaking pencil! This guy is reenacting the controlled mayhem we used to orchestrate with our joysticks, only on the big screen! If there’s any character that comes close to the nostalgic, adrenaline-filled gaming experience of the 80s and 90s, it’s John Wick.

In today’s sugar-coated, CGI-infested movie landscape, Wick is a breath of fresh air. Just like how the feel of a worn-out, comfy tee or a beloved hood cannot be beaten by any fancy, high tech wear, John Wick, with his basic, nondigital approach to baddie-bashing, proves that old ways sometimes can be the best ways. Eventually, it all comes down to this – give me a gun-totting, pet-loving army of one over a cosmic superhero any given day. John, baby, here’s to hoping we see more of your kind.
